Eleven Passengers have been confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident along Koko-Yauri road while 25 of them have been hospitalized for sustaining series of injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kebbi State Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, “on the 3rd November, 2023, at about 0600hrs, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident along Koko_ Yauri road, involving a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by one Alhaji Sule ‘m’ aged 40yrs of Gada LGA of Sokoto State. The truck which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans was coming from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State. On reaching Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, the driver of the truck lost control.
“As a result, it somersaulted and Twenty One (21) passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
“On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen from Shanga Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to General hospital,Shanga, for treatment, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven (11) dead, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment.
“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, psc, mnips prayed for the souls of the departed to have an eternal rest and may their immediate families and friends have the courage to bear the irreparable loss.
“The CP also calls on the NURTW, NARTO and other road users to always ensure they emplace adequate safety measures in their vehicles and be conscious, with a view to preventing future reoccurrence.
“The equally advised them to observe speed limit, avoid overloading, recklessness and be more careful while driving.”
