About 1,000 participants, including governors from the Lake Chad Basin region, international development partners, experts, academia, and top traditional rulers, are gathered in Maiduguri, Borno’s capital, to draw strategies for the stability of the area.

Secretary to the Government of Yobe State (SSG), Alhaji Baba Wali while announcing this at a press conference in Maiduguri on Monday, said his state is committed to hosting the 5th edition of the Lake Chad Governors’ Forum in Borno.

“About 1,000 participants are attending the three-day forum. Already, 850 participants have arrived,” Wali who is also the chairman of the local organising committee, disclosed.

He explained that participants at the forum will address address “pressing challenges” in the Lake Chad region and explore “opportunities for
recovery and resilience” for millions of people effected by prolong insurgency and environmental crisis.

He said discussions will also focus on address the implementation of Territorial Action Plans for the Lake Chad region plagued by over a decade insurgency.

“This 5th edition of the forum focuses on the theme:Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: addressing the evolving challenges of the region, exploring innovative solutions, and Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and
Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” he disclosed.

Be said the forum which starts on Tuesday January 28, is expected to develop strategies for the promotion of durable solutions for displaced populations, and enhancement of the social and economic recovery of the people.

Nigeria, Chaf, Niger and Cameroon are parts of the Lake Chad Basin and governors security chiefs, experts and teadional rulers from the member-nations have arrived Borno for the forum.
