Following the early morning downpour in Lagos, a truck driver who lost visibility has rammed into a car, killing one and injuring three others on the 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The accident involved a mini truck with registration number MUS 489 XS, and a Toyota Camry car with number plate KRD 470 JD.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LATSMA), blamed the accident on over speeding by the truck driver.
According to LASTMAâs Director, Department of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, âearly this morning, operatives of the LASTMA responded swiftly to a serious accident on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, where one life was lost.
âThe Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, confirmed that one person died in the accident which occurred near the University of Lagos Waterfront heading towards the Iyana-Oworonsoki area of the state.
âGiwa stated that the accident involved a mini truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD).
âPreliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding during this morningâs heavy downpour on the bridge.
âDespite the governmentâs ongoing campaign to educate motorists on speed limits, Hon. Giwa noted that drivers continue to flout the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
âHe urged both commercial bus drivers and private car owners to avoid speeding, especially on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads throughout the state.
âThe deceased was promptly removed by SEHMU officials, while LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the bridge.
âHon. Giwa extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasised the importance of safety.
âHe urged motorists, especially commercial bus drivers to refrain from over speeding during any journey within or outside Lagos.â
