One person was stabbed to death while many others were injured and vehicles damaged when commercial motorcycles operators popularly known as okada riders attacked a minibus (Korope ) at Ogba, Lagos
The Korope driver was attacked on Thursday, but he died yesterday.
According to a witness, the okada riders mistook the occupants of the bus as policemen who usually came to extort them and attacked the occupants with dangerous weapons, including daggers.
The Korope driver was stabbed severely before the okada riders realised that he was not a policeman and they fled the scene.
Said the witness: “The victim was rushed to the hospital, but he gave up the ghost. The news of the man’s death spread like wildfire, and yesterday morning, Korope drivers and their sympathisers came for vengeance and attacked Okada riders and there was a free for all. Bottles, daggers, and other dangerous items were freely used . Many people were injured , one person died, while many property were damaged. It took the intervention of the police to save the situation”.
Lagos State Police Relations Officer (PPRO),SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.
He gave the name of the deceased as Abiodun Hassan, 36.
According to him, a team of policemen was drafted to the scene and two suspects – Nura Seidu and Yusuf Abubakar were arrested and were being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
He said the body of the deceased had been deposited in a public mortuary.
