One person was killed while three others were rescued in a collapsed two-storey building under construction at Ishaga Road, opposite Central Mosque, Idi Araba, Mushin, Lagos, on Sunday.
The incident happened around 3:50 pm yesterday after most people had returned from Sunday worship and were relaxing at home.
As at press time, emergency responders were still searching the rubble for survivors who might still be trapped in the collapsed building. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that one body was recovered while three victims were rescued.
South/West coordinator, NEMA, Ibrahim, who confirmed that a body was recovered, said, “The three persons rescued were rushed to the hospital, while the search for other possible victims continues.”
A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “We are confused. We don’t know whether two persons were trapped or if they are not just around. One person’s phone line is going through but he has not picked, while the other person’s phone is not going through. I don’t know whether it is a coincidence or what we don’t want to happen has happened. We are waiting for the emergency responders to complete their work to know the real situation of things.”
