Manufacturers task Lagos on infrastructural challenge, others

The Apapa Branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria(MAN), has called on the Lagos State Government to  address issues bordering on logistics and infrastructure.

Chairman of MAN, Apapa Branch, Frank Onyebu, made the appeal at  the 12th edition of MAN Apapa Branch Business Luncheon themed: “Facilitating Ease of Clearing Inputs for Manufactured Goods under AfCFTA”,  where he    noted that the association would continue to engage the Lagos State Government on the challenges confronting manufacturers in the state.

Onyebu urged the state government to come to the aid of manufacturers in Apapa, Amuwo Odofin and Kirikiri areas of the state, particularly in the aspect of infrastructural development. “It appears we have been neglected. The access roads to our factories are non-existent,” he said.

In response, the Lagos state government pledged to give more support to MAN to further strengthen their operations and consolidate the State’s position as the industrial hub of Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Commerce industry and Cooperatives, Dr Lola Akande, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adetutu Ososanya, reassured members of the Association that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains their partner in progress and his administration is conscious of the fact that its policy thrust of creating a greater Lagos will materialise when it supports local industrialisation and heed the yearnings of manufacturers in the State.

Participants at the luncheon called for more assistance from the government in respect of the provision of more access roads in Amuwo Odofin, removing illegal checkpoints and facilitating movements of container-bearing trucks from the Ports to various destinations in the State.
